Yyoga Retreat

Sicilian Bliss - Yoga, Meditation, and the Path to Liberation

Yoga Retreat in Sicily, Italy

August 3, 2023 to August 10, 2024

Near Noto and Marzamemi

Escape to our Sicilian Sanctuary for a transformative summer retreat, where you can disconnect, recharge, explore, and savor freedom. Here, amidst the whispers of history and the gentle caress of Mediterranean breezes, we will embark on a journey of renewal, guided by the wisdom of yoga.

Your hosts, Colin, Monica, and Robbie, will guide you through a wide array of spiritual teachings, time-tested methods, and meaningful yoga classes, all centered around the theme of liberation.

Ancient yogis discussed two kinds of freedom: one to embody states of bliss through meditation and introspective practices, almost transcending the physical body. The other to experience freedom within the body and stability while engaging with the world, providing a sense of balance and groundedness amidst life’s busyness.

We invite our retreaters to explore these different states of freedom through a holistic blend of yoga postures, movement, mobility training, breathwork, meditation, sound, and other subtle practices. Together, we’ll address the challenges of being a spiritual seeker in these turbulent times and delve into tools we can utilize to transform the energies of fear, insecurity, and isolation. Our shared explorations will steady our hearts, enabling us to actively participate in the world with presence, purpose, care, and a renewed sense of freedom.

As the sun sets over the Sicilian horizon, bask in the warmth of newfound wisdom. Feel yourself open to the beauty of life’s simplicity. Join us on this ancient island of wonders, where every moment is an invitation to rediscover the infinite potential within!

A pivotal moment in his journey occurred when he attended a mesmerizing gong bath in London. Captivated by the ethereal power of sound, he felt an undeniable urge to integrate its magic into his practice and teaching. Following a scientific methodology developed by the prestigious British Academy of Sound Therapy (BAST), Colin pursued BAST’s Group Sound Healing training. Since then, he uses gongs and other instruments to bring his students on a profound journeys and soundscapes.

In 2014, he co-founded Yyoga in Brussels, an urban sanctuary, dedicating his time to nurturing this space and guiding his students along their own transformative paths.

Envelop yourself in the transformative aura of Colin’s sessions, where the enchanting alchemy of sound becomes a gateway to liberation. With seamless finesse, he guides you on a celestial journey, harmonizing body and soul through the enchanting blend of yoga and sound. As you venture deeper into this mystical realm, you’ll find yourself transcending the ordinary and awakening to a profound state of being.

Monica Montanaro

Monica began her yoga journey at 17 upon discovering her diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. It was during a period of profound loss while residing in Surrey, UK, that she found her “yogic tribe.”

Deeply captivated by Vinyasa Yoga, Monica underwent her first teacher training in Slovenia in 2011, marking a transformative turning point. Since then, she has been steadfast in her studies under Venkatesh at the Atmavikasa Center of Yogic Science in Mysore, honing her practice of asana, pranayama, kriyas, meditation, and pain management.

Monica’s passion for Vinyasa also led her to train with Jason Crandell, blending dynamic creativity with traditional and contemporary yoga in her teaching. With a sharp wit and unwavering dedication, Monica excels in inspiring students to reach their fullest potential.

Ever the eager learner, Monica’s yoga practice has expanded to include Yin. She has recently completed a vigorous meditation training under Andrea Boni drawing inspiration from tantric practices.

Robbie Makroczy

Robbie is a harmonious fusion of a modern yogi and a daring philosopher. He is a fearless explorer of new horizons, a spirited adventurer who loves to venture into unexplored realms seeking the Truth. Attuned to the elements of nature, Robbie’s main desire is to unlock the secrets of existence through wisdom teachings, silent reflections and heartfelt connections with other sentient beings.

His spiritual journey spans more than 25 years, during which he has traversed through an array of sacred paths and yoga traditions, deeply inspired by ayurveda’s holistic wisdom, the transformative practices of tantra, and the gentle touch of reiki’s healing energies. He finds his center through the traditional practice of hatha yoga while exploring the fluidity of mindful flow, the contemplative depth of yin and restorative yoga, and the soul-soothing essence of meditation.

In 2014, he co-founded Yyoga in Brussels, an urban sanctuary, dedicating his time to nurturing this space and guiding his students along their own transformative paths.

Robbie’s classes combine philosophy, conscious body movements, mindful breathing, playfulness, introspection, and relaxation techniques designed to open the body and mind, challenge, energize, heal, and induce calmness. He places special emphasis on creating a warm and transformative environment for students of all abilities in order to facilitate their self-inquiry and growth.

He believes that life is so much more than what we perceive through our senses and there is a loving source we can tap into to find a deeper purpose, more courage, lightness, and liberation in our everyday existence.
